Multiple Sclerosis

Tracy Scott was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2016 and has since navigated the daily realities of the condition viz. pain, fatigue, vision challenges, and unpredictable mobility all while raising two boys and staying active in her community. Struck by how little understanding exists around MS and how isolating that feels, she turned her personal experience into a platform for awareness and founded Support Multiple Sclerosis to ensure others don’t face that silence alone.

What Is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple Sclerosis, commonly known as MS, is a chronic neurological condition that  affects the central nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. It occurs  when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of the  nerves, called myelin.

When this protective layer is damaged, communication between the brain and the  rest of the body becomes disrupted. This can result in a wide range of symptoms  including fatiguepainmuscle weaknessvision problemsmemory challenges and mobility difficulties.

MS affects each person differently. Some live with mild symptoms, while others  experience significant daily challenges. One of the most difficult aspects of MS is its  unpredictability, as a person may wake up feeling strong one day and struggle  the next.

Multiple Sclerosis was first identified in 1868 by French neurologist Jean-Martin  Charcot. At the time, very little was understood about why the condition developed or  how to treat it.

Over the past century, research has steadily expanded our knowledge of how MS  affects the central nervous system. Advances in MRI technology have improved early  diagnosis, and modern therapies now help many people slow progression and  manage symptoms more effectively.

While there is still no cure, ongoing global research continues to bring hope and  improved quality of life to those living with MS.

Improved diagnostic tools, particularly MRI imaging, allow earlier and more accurate  detection.

Assistive mobility devices, adaptive technologies and digital health tools now support  greater independence and improved daily functioning for many living with MS.
